Mercedes Monmany
(Barcelona). Graduated in Information Sciences at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Literary critic and essay writer specialising in contemporary, specially European literature, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic, Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia, and Merit Golden Medal of Serbia. Former editor, publishing counsellor and literary critic of the main Spanish papers and magazines. Currently, she is a member of several editorial boards of such cultural journals as
Revista de Libros, Sibila and
La Alegría de los Naufragios.
Organizer of several courses and conferences both at universities and cultural institutions, curator of anthological expositions about great universal writers (e.g. the Nobel Prize for Literature Isaac Bashevis Singer, the French Julius Verne, or G.T. di Lampedusa), she has translated such relevant authors as Leonardo Sciascia, Attilio Bertolucci, Francis Ponge, Valerio Magrelli and Philippe Jaccottet.
